Irish Heritage Food Tasting Experience
Beyond Potatoes and Guinness
“The island is rich in pastures and meadows, honey and milk.” Giraldus Cambrensis, Anglo-Norman Historian, 1185 AD
In a time when the America’s had yet to be discovered, and the world was believed to be flat, Cambrensis could no more have imagined our post-industrial era world than our urbanized social order can imagine a world where pasture, meadow, honey and milk equaled wealth, health and happiness. The many centuries since Cambrensis’ time have been marked by social and political upheaval the world over, but the emerald isle, and her people, have demonstrated this island’s worth time and time again. Ireland’s history is a fascinating one, rich in myth, legend, fairytale and folklore. The tenacity of her people and culture cannot be disputed.
Like most faith based celebrations (and St. Patrick’s Day started out that way), food — not excess drink — can be said genuinely reflect the original spirit of the holiday. This year we are commemorating St. Patrick’s day by honouring the emerald isle’s rich food heritage.
Beyond Potatoes and Guinness will take the dining experience beyond the common experience of Irish cuisine. We’ll celebrate the fruits of the island’s pastures, forests, and sea. We’ll enrich time honoured fare with our own unique contemporary touches. The potato will not be forgotten. The influence of the potato on Ireland’s cuisine cannot be denied or excluded, but we’ll teasing the palate with a wealth of delicious ingredients throughout the 6 course dining experience.
St. Paddy’s Day & Craft Beer
St. Paddy’s Day could well be the Irish Culture personified with a wealth of myths, legends, and lore. We’ve all heard tales of exorcised snakes. We believe that kissing Blarney Stones can make us eloquent. We carry shamrocks and wearing green to avoid being pinched by leprechauns. News headlines each year tell a tale of crowds drawn to vats of green beer before and after the St. Patrick’s Day parade.
At Laughing Demon we believe in offering opportunities to share great experiences with family and friends over great food, unique local craft beer, boutique wine, and craft cocktails.
When people get together over food and drinks, great conversations and laughter soon follow. Our Craft Beer Thursday tradition has always given our guests the opportunity to share some laughs and fun with the people that matter in their lives while sharing a meal. We think having St. Patrick’s Day fall on a Thursday this year is a really great thing!
We are pleased that on St. Patrick’s Day Thursday our guests can double up on value and fun. Our 6 course Beyond Potatoes and Guinness Food Tasting experience is only $29 and our special craft beer and craft beer flight pricing makes for the perfect opportunity to explore unique food and craft beer pairings in honour of Ireland’s beloved patron saint!
The Evening Format
Seatings for our Beyond Potatoes and Guinness Food Tasting will begin at 6:30 pm, with the first course served at about 7pm. Courses flow in a nice relaxed fashion with time to savour and enjoy some conversation. As a rule, tasting event dining usually takes about two hours from soup through dessert.
One of the attractions of our food tasting events is the anticipation that leads up to the big event. Who doesn’t like to be pleasantly surprised? We let you in on the theme, but you have to wait until you arrive to see the actual menu. You can literally feel the excitement and anticipation as guests arrive. You really can’t beat the mood! Take a look at a Laughing Demon Tasting Menu example below for an idea of what to expect.
On Allergies and Special Needs
We also know that while everyone loves a pleasant surprise, unpleasant surprises are far from welcome. We know that many of our guests have allergies, food sensitivities, and other special needs that they have to plan around. That is why we strive to be as flexible and accommodating as we can and have policies and procedures in place to ensure all our guests enjoy their experience. We plan ahead and make sure we have substitutions and adaptations for each course. Just add a note when you book your table letting us know your concerns, and we’ll get back to you — or give us a call and speak directly to a member of Team Demon. We’ll make sure your needs are met. Visit our allergies and sensitivities page for more information.
